Public Works

The Mariposa County Department of Public Works is made up of multiple Divisions that deliver services to our community each and every day. These Divisions, which can be seen on the left side of this page, represent roughly 52 individual budgets totaling about $48 Million Dollars in funding from multiple Federal, State and Local sources.

ROAD SIDE WEED SPRAYING

The County of Mariposa, Public Works Department, maintains approximately 600 miles of public roads and Zone of Benefit Roads, including actively managing vegetation control utilizing chemical means.

Requests are received from local property owners to establish a "no-spray" zone on road frontage bordering their property. Property owners interested in filing an opt-out/no spray agreement must complete and submit a Roadside Vegetation Control Agreement to the Public Works Department in order to be considered for the opt-out option.

Tree Mortality Mitigation

Over the next several months, Mariposa County Public Works Department will be mitigating tree mortality hazards along County maintained roadways and properties. Working with the assistance of Cal Fire Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit, the activity of falling trees and the associated cleanup may cause traffic delays and short term road closures, or may require the closure of parks and other properties.

Thank you in advance for your patience, and for being alert to the work zones to ensure you and the workers remain safe. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Russ Marks at 209-966-5356.
