Vote by Mail INFORMATION
The first day that regular absentee ballots can be issued for an election is twenty-nine days prior to the election. The last day that applications for absentee ballots can be accepted through the mail, or by fax, is seven days prior to an election.
If you are overseas and stationed in an area where requesting, receiving, and returning your ballot cannot be done in the regular 29 day voting period, write on your request that you need an early ballot. These can be mailed or faxed as early as 60 days before the election. The ballot will be sent through the mail unless you request that your ballot be sent to you by fax. You can request that your Absentee Ballot be sent to you by fax through the Federal Voting Assistance Program by using one of the following fax numbers. The military fax number is DSN 223-5527 or use (703) 693-5527 or (800) 368-8683. Your voted ballot may be returned through the mail.
If you are already registered to vote in Mariposa County, submit either an absentee application or complete and sign the “Federal Post Card Registration and Absentee Application” (FPCA) and return it to the county elections official; it will serve as an application for an absentee ballot. FPCA forms are available from your Voting officer on your base and U.S. embassies or consulates. A single FPCA may be used to request both primary and general election absentee ballots for two calendar years (for local, state and federal offices).
Registered voters can request an absentee ballot online.
You may also send a letter as an absentee request; it can also be mailed or faxed to (209) 966-6496. Letters sent as an absentee request must contain all of the following:
1. The name and date of the election for which you are applying;
2. Your residence address in Mariposa County;
3. The address to which your ballot is to be mailed; and
4. Your signature as registered to vote.
Mail the request to: Mariposa County Registrar of Voters
PO Box 247
Mariposa, CA 95338
If you are not currently registered to vote, complete and sign the “Federal Post Card Registration and Absentee Application” (FPCA) and return it to the county elections official. It can serve as both an affidavit of registration and an application for an absentee ballot. It must be received no later than 15 days before the election.
When a Special Absentee Voter moves away from Mariposa County, he or she may, under certain circumstances, use their last residence address in Mariposa County for the purpose of voter registration even though they may longer reside at the address. For voting residency guidelines for members of the uniformed services and their family members and overseas citizens, refer to the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) website at www.fvap.gov.
Ballots must be returned by 8:00pm on the day of the election to the Registrar of Voters or to any official polling place in Mariposa County.
If you have any questions, please call the Registrar of Voters at (209) 966-2007. You may also call the Federal Voting Assistance Program at (800) 438-VOTE.
This notice should remain posted until a replacement is received from the Mariposa County Registrar of Voters. Election Code §3004
