County Fair
a visitor learns about styrofoam ws_thumb.JPG     The Public Works booth was once again one of the most popular at the Mariposa County Fair. More than 1,800 people signed the pledge to recycle used motor oil and then spun the prize wheel to see what they would win. Of those, 71 percent were from Mariposa County. '
Hundreds of oil recycling containers, oil filter caddies, rags, funnels, and filter wrenches  were given away to do-it-yourself oil changers and people (including too many kids to count) who have friends or family members who change their own oil.  Many people said they recycle. We hope that goes beyond redeemable bottles and cans and includes all of the many other items that are recyclable, such as glass bottles and jars, #1, #2 and #3-7 paastics, cardboard, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, metal & aluminum, mixed paper and e-waste.
Young people also got creative using recycled materials with fair entries that ranged from an igloo made from plastic milk jugs to egg carton bugs and CD fish.
