2014 EARTH DAY ESSAY CONTEST
For Mariposa Students Gr. 7-12
THEME: How I can help protect the environment and why what I do is important.
MAXIMUM LENGTH: 300 words, handwritten or typed. Children in K-2 category may submit drawings with captions explaining their pictures or may dictate their essay to an adult.
CATEGORIES: K-2nd grade; 3rd-5th grade; 6th-8th grade; 9th-12th grade
JUDGING: Entries will be judged by members of the AB939 Solid Waste Task Force based on originality; adherence to the theme; clarity and sincerity. Essays should have a topic sentence and a conclusion. Drawings should be done in felt tip pen/markers (for reproduction purposes).
PRIZES: The top winner in each category will have their entry printed in the Mariposa Gazette &the Sierra Sun Times, will be honored at a Board of Supervisors Meeting and will receive $25. TheGrand Prize Winner (selected from the top four) will also receive a $20 gift certificate from Dabbles. Special prize: $25 gift card (2) to Pioneer Market to runners-up in the 6th-8th gr. and 9th-12th gr. categories.

DEADLINE: 4 p.m., Thursday, April 3. The student’s first and last name, address, phone number, and grade level must be clearly written on the back of the entry, or, if e-mailed, written at the bottom of the page.
SUBMISSION: Entries may be e-mailed to or dropped off at any of the following locations:
