Mariposa County Sheriff Continuing Professional Training

Law Enforcement Officers in the State of California are required to constantly be trained, and updated in changes in the law and procedures to assist them in performing their duties. Unlike many other professions, Deputy Sheriffs as well as other law enforcement officers are required by law to complete training requirements in areas mandated through legislation by the state of California. The completion of training in these required areas is organized, controlled and recorded by the Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training, POST.

The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Department is committed to providing its members with the most recent training information available in specialized areas as well as complying with the mandated training requirements. A Deputy Sheriff is required to receive 24 hrs. of Continuing Professional Training every year. Each member of the sheriff’s department has met those requirements over the years and has received additional training when available.

The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Department continues to choose not to be satisfied with the minimum training required by law and provides additional training to its members on a monthly basis. Each month, members of the department are assigned to an 8 hour in-house training day where they receive additional training in a variety of law enforcement topics as well as topics specific to the needs our deputies and the citizens of Mariposa County.

Our department remains committed to providing the citizens of Mariposa County with highly trained knowledgeable Deputies, Jail Officers, Dispatchers, Animal Control Officers and other employees. Our Command Staff continually attend seminars, classes and conferences to increase their knowledge of law enforcement management information, and to exchange information with Command Officers from other agencies. This continual training at all levels allows members of our department to provide the highest quality of Law Enforcement services to the residents of Mariposa County.

Patrol

The Patrol Division is the backbone of any law enforcement agency. It is the most visible component of the Sheriff’s Office and the one the citizens of Mariposa County have the most contact with on a daily basis. The Patrol Division patrols 1455 square miles and is at your service 24 hours a day.

The Patrol Division has a staff of twenty-six deputies and six sergeants.

Changing social issues and priorities present new challenges to law enforcement in the 21st century. The patrol division will continue to provide the protection and services that the citizens of Mariposa County want and deserve.
