The CAL FIRE Madera - Mariposa - Merced Unit will be conducting a vegetation management training burn on October 24th and 25th. The training burn will take place on the Long Ranch located on Old Highway near Yaqui Gulch Road. The training will consist of burning 4 sections of annual grass, oak woodland, and sparse brush, totaling about 95 acres and will take place between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM each day. Smoke will be visible throughout the day from many locations throughout Mariposa County.

The purpose of the burn is to train firefighting personnel in firing strategies and tactics. The management fire will also be used to reduce noxious weeds and reduce fuel loading and ladder fuels and promote native grasses.
